Mt Welby is a very special vacation rental, and when you walk through the doors, you’ll know why immediately. Step back in time as you tread on original wood floors and antique rugs. All of the rooms feature antique furnishings put together with the finest sense of simplicity and elegance. The grounds are also not to be overlooked, with well-designed gardens and natural meadows up against the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.
Kitchen
The eat-in kitchen features two walls of French doors that offer views of the garden and provide plenty of natural light. An L-shaped island with granite countertops houses the oven and range, sink, and dishwasher, while the refrigerator with ice maker and extensive cabinets line the walls The appliances are stainless steel. Crisp white walls and cabinets, wood floors, and antique area rugs make this room place you’ll love to spend time in. Just over the counter is a long rectangular table that seats ten, perfect for morning coffee and casual dinners.
Living Room
The large living room is an open space with great views, a perfect place for the family to convene together. A stone fireplace with crisp white mantle is the centerpiece of the room, with pale grey walls, wooden floors, and lovely antique rugs contributing to the warmth of the room. A comfortable sage green couch, matching chair, and a supple brown leather club chair provide comfortable seating, or turn on the large flat-screen television and enjoy a movie.
Formal Sitting Room
The formal living room features a ruby red leather couch and an overstuffed chair with ottoman, as well as various antique tables. This room provides a perfect place for evening conversation or for just sitting back with a book and reading.
Dining Room
The dining room has a large oval table that seats ten guests comfortable. Butter cream yellow walls, a stone fireplace, and an antique hutch and accessories make this room a fine place to enjoy a meal.
Library and Study
At the top of the front stairwell, overlooking the main entry hall, is the library and study area. Built in bookcases line the walls, and a desk in front of the bright window provides an inspiring place to write a letter.
Garden
The ground and gardens of Mt Welby are nearly as spectacular as the house. Manicured gardens surround the house, while just beyond are wild meadows, tranquil ponds, and beautiful trees. The lovely Blue Ridge Mountains are visible from everywhere on this spectacular property.
Master Bedroom
The stunning master bedroom is located on the second floor of the vacation home, just off the library in center hall. The 22-foot-by-16-foot room features an iron king-size bed and antique furnishings, including an antique pine table desk and three-door antique dresser. Three large windows offer views to the East and South and overlook the herb garden, fountain, and ponds in front of the house. A sitting area features a gas fireplace, two sofas, and a table on which to place your afternoon cup of tea. The room is painted in the Williamsburg Governor’s Palace Dining Room Blue, a soothing and lovely shade that makes this room a perfect retreat. Wood floors, classic textiles, and crisp white ceilings and trim complete this special space. The attached master bath features wood floors, a large stone-lined shower, and a two-person Jacuzzi tub.
Second Bedroom
The second bedroom is also situated off of the library in the central hall on the second floor. Original wood floors, Williamsburg sage green walls, and antique wood furniture, including an armoire, desk, and dresser, add to the charm and sophistication of this regal 22-foot-by-16-foot bedroom. The king-size bed is brass and comfortable, while the sitting area situated around the wood fireplace makes a perfect place to relax with a book. Windows to the West and South offer views of the manicured front gardens, pastures, and mountains.
Third Bedroom
The third bedroom is on the second floor off the back staircase. French doors open out to the terrace and let in fresh mountain air and cool breezes at night. The wooden full-size bed offers a comfortable place to rest your head, while the cozy sitting area offers a place of quiet reflection in this fourteen-by-twelve-foot bedroom. A wood-burning fireplace adds charm in the summer and warmth in the winter, and the original wood floors and antique rugs provide comfort and beauty throughout the year.
Fourth Bedroom
The fourth bedroom is a 22-by-sixteen-foot room on the first floor of the house, situated in the old wine and vegetable cellar. Big windows let light in from the front courtyard, while 30-inch-thick stone walls keep the room cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The tile floor is warmed up with antique wool rugs, while an antique wooden mantle provides a focal point for the room. Antique furniture, including an iron queen-size bed, walnut armoire, and wooden rocker, make this room a unique retreat.
Fifth Bedroom
The fifth bedroom is a 16-by-12-foot space and, like the fourth bedroom, features 30-inch-wine stone walls throughout. This room was the former workshop of the home, but today it’s a lovely bedroom with a private balcony. This bedroom has two sets of French doors; one set leads to the private patio, while the other leads to the downstairs hall and sitting area. A brass queen-size bed and antique pine furniture, including armoire, bedside table, and blanket chest, finish off this special room.
